05 — OUR WAY

A functional body first. The marathon comes later.

Before any marathon plan, we like to think a body that can actually run it — without breaking down along the way — makes a difference. It sounds subtle. It isn't.

Often, signing up for a race means downloading a 16-week plan. We've watched that approach lead to nagging pains, injuries and more than a few dropouts. It looks like the price of admission for the sport. It isn't.

At Splits, we'd suggest building two things at once: general aerobic capacity, and functional strength to protect your joints. Specific plans for a particular distance come last. There's no formula, but there is a form. The marathon doesn't always have to be the goal — it can be the consequence.

Let's find your level. The calculators are just the first meeting point. They help you see where you are. The rest comes later.

Start by enjoying your level. The marathon comes later.

07 — FREQUENTLY ASKED

Questions worth answering.

Why don't you just give me a marathon plan?

Because we've watched that path end in injury and dropouts somewhere between week 6 and week 8. We'd rather build aerobic capacity and functional strength first. When the body is ready, the marathon shows up — and stays.

I've been running for years. Is this for me?

Yes — at Intermediate or Advanced. We don't assume you're starting from zero. Every body has its own starting point. If you've been running for years, edit the distances and times you already know. The calculator adapts to you, not the other way around.

What makes this different from other pace calculators?

Other calculators give you a number. We like to give you context. The calculators are the doorway to a system of levels that will grow into full functional plans by sport. Today you calculate times. Soon, you plan whole seasons.

Why all the focus on functional base?

Most running marketing pushes hurry: "beat your time", "finish the challenge in 12 weeks". Taking the time to build a base isn't slow — it's strategy. Rushing it usually ends in burnout. Patience is the most underrated skill in the sport.

Is it free?

Today, yes. The calculators and the levels are free, and they'll stay that way. The account and saved plans land in the third stage and will run on a sustainable model that we're still figuring out. No pressure to announce it before it's ready.

The plan starts with the first question.
